I am a commercial photographer working in Johannesburg South Africa. Forty four years ago at the age of 14 I made my first sale to a local newspaper. I have a made a living in photography ever since.
This website is dedicated not to my commercial work but to my passion and hobby, my personal photography. Here you will find collections of images that have been made over the past two decades. A lot of my interests such as hiking, travel, studio photography and Buddhism have caused me to pick up a camera and over time I will upload images that result from these interests.
I grew up in rural KwaZulu-Natal and after leaving school spent an unfortunate but formative period in the South African military under the apartheid government. Wishing to escape further military commitments and also driven by curiosity about the rest of the world I left South Africa in 1989 living for a period in England, America and Israel. I also travelled extensively in this time visiting many other countries.
At the end of 1994 I set off on a bicycle with three friends on an unsupported bicycle trip that took us from Jerusalem in Israel through Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and finally South Africa. It was a 6 month odyssey that changed my worldview in a fundamental way. In many respects I feel I am still on that journey.
I hope you enjoy my photographs should you choose to give up some of your valuable time and go through the galleries. If you have any observations, advice or opinions on the work, good or bad, please don’t be a stranger, use the form below to send me a note. I will respond as quickly as my busy commercial photography schedule allows.
